Loxwood History is a heritage website dedicated to exploring the past of Loxwood, a village in West Sussex, and the neighbouring communities that helped shape its development. It traces the area’s story from the earliest recorded settlers in 1248, during the reign of Henry III, through successive monarchies and periods of social change. The site features historical accounts of the old church site, Church Cottage, the Georgian chapel and the story of the altar stone, alongside village timelines and stories about people whose contributions might otherwise be forgotten.
Visitors can explore a map of local points of interest, read about connections with nearby villages, and view historic photographs spanning roughly a century. Inspired by Loxwood’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022, the project presents local history in the context of wider national events and the reigns of 33 monarchs. It also provides directions, information about local attractions and links to parish, church and village resources, as well as regional archives for further research
