About LSU Museum of Art
The LSU Museum of Art is a renowned cultural institution dedicated to enriching and inspiring through its diverse collections, exhibitions, conservation efforts, and educational programs. Since its establishment in 1959, the museum has evolved from a small period room museum in the Memorial Tower to a grand institution with over 13,000 square feet of exhibition space in the Shaw Center for the Arts. As the only dedicated art museum in Baton Rouge, the LSU Museum of Art welcomes over 20,000 visitors annually.
Its impressive permanent collection features more than 6,500 objects, including a world-class assortment of Chinese jade and an extensive collection of Louisiana art. The museum hosts world-class touring exhibitions, showcasing regional, American, and European painting, sculpture, decorative arts, works on paper, and photography. Additionally, the LSU Museum of Art actively engages with the community through collaborative projects, art outreach initiatives, and educational programs for all age groups.
