LTVH

The Landestierschutzverband Hessen e.V. (LTVH) is the umbrella organisation for around 100 animal shelters and animal welfare associations in the German state of Hesse. Working with its members and the German Animal Welfare Federation, it advocates for better conditions for animals and promotes respectful treatment free from abuse, violence, manipulation and mismanagement. The LTVH supports animal welfare organisations with information, expertise and practical resources, and shares updates on campaigns, cases and developments affecting animals.

Its website helps the public find guidance on what to do when an animal is found, missing or injured, and how to report suspected animal suffering. The organisation also offers in-person and online seminars and workshops for people involved in animal welfare, including shelter staff and volunteers. Topics include animal-care knowledge and training for dogs and cats. To reduce suffering among free-roaming cats and prevent uncontrolled breeding, the LTVH provides organisational and financial support to member associations conducting neutering programmes. The association also publishes guidance and forms and welcomes donations to support its work.
