The Stichting Missing Airmen Memorial Foundation (SMAMF) is a Dutch foundation dedicated to preserving the history of Second World War air crashes in Friesland and its surrounding waters. Since the 1970s, it has researched the aircraft crews involved, using location and archival research and contact with relatives to document the people behind the events and share their stories with future generations. Its website provides a searchable database of wartime crashes and emergency landings, alongside information about crash sites, airmen, civilian casualties, and the wider air war over Friesland.
SMAMF aims to mark crash locations where missing airmen may remain and register these places as field graves. Working with local committees, municipalities, and the province, it has helped establish memorials in communities across Friesland. The foundation also gives lectures, assists with exhibitions, and offers guided tours for international visitors. It welcomes historical documents and enquiries from the public. People can support its work by becoming annual donors, with contributions starting at €10.
