About LughaKonnect
Lugha Konnect is a Kenya-built language data project creating an open corpus of the country’s languages, documented by the people who speak them. Its dataset brings together words, phrases, usage examples and recordings, with contributions checked by reviewers familiar with each language. The project currently covers 36 languages, including Dholuo, Kikuyu, Kamba, Maasai, Somali, Swahili and Sheng.
Visitors can browse the collection, search across languages in English, Kiswahili or a local language, and explore translations between Kenyan languages. Speakers can contribute words and recordings, helping fill gaps in vocabulary and audio coverage. Lugha Konnect aims to make reliable, machine-readable language data available for tools such as translation and speech recognition, so Kenyan languages can be represented in emerging technologies.
The project also shares coverage and missing-data information to show where contributions are most needed. Corpus data is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4. 0, allowing others to build with it while crediting contributors and their communities
