Luisfermadrid

Dr. Luis Fernando Madrid is an Australian-Colombian conductor, pianist, artistic leader and educator whose career spans more than three decades across Australia and Latin America. Based in Sydney and working regularly in Colombia, he leads opera and orchestral performances, with particular expertise in Italian opera, including bel canto, opera buffa and verismo. His musical approach draws on doctoral research into tempo, expression and interpretation in Italian opera, combining scholarly insight with expressive flexibility and attention to the relationship between singers, orchestra and stage.

Madrid has collaborated with major Colombian opera and orchestral institutions and conducted ensembles in Australia, including the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra and Sydney Conservatorium of Music Symphony Orchestra. He founded and directs the Sydney Virtuosi Orchestra and Camerata Lirica d’Australia, and leads the Australia–Colombia Opera Partnership, developing productions and professional pathways between the countries. His educational work includes founding Sydney Opera Scuola, mentoring emerging musicians and presenting masterclasses.
