Lumpemännle

Lumpemännle Hölzlebruck e.V. is a carnival association based in Titisee-Neustadt, in Germany’s Hochschwarzwald region. It takes its name from Hölzlebruck, once an independent part of Neustadt and now incorporated into the town. The association celebrates the local carnival tradition through its distinctive Lumpemännle character and appearances at festivals. Its website also features information about events where members provide refreshments, alongside photographs, videos, songs, club news and an account of the group’s history.

The Lumpemännle costume, or Häs, consists of a jacket and trousers sewn with fabric patches, with small silver bells set between them. The outfit also includes a neckerchief bearing the association’s name and a small mask worn on a strap. Its carved wooden mask depicts a smiling face and is decorated with green hair, a red fabric wreath and a cloth covered in colourful patches. White gloves complete the costume. Through its carnival character, event participation and member activities, the association preserves and shares a lively local tradition in Titisee-Neustadt.
