Sheriff Robert Luna, who was elected as the 34th Los Angeles County Sheriff in November 2022, brings an extensive, 36-year career in law enforcement to his role. Having previously served as Long Beach Chief of Police, Luna advocates for 21st-century policing that emphasizes partnerships with community leaders, residents, and government entities. His leadership of the largest Sheriff's Department in the nation, which comprises nearly 17,000 dedicated personnel, has been marked by significant crime reduction and innovative reforms. Under his guidance, violent crime has decreased every year, with a notable 14% drop in homicides over the last year.

Luna has implemented critical reforms aimed at improving public trust, including the establishment of the Office of Constitutional Policing and policies banning law enforcement gangs. His commitment to relationship-based policing stems from his upbringing in unincorporated East Los Angeles, where he experienced various aspects of law enforcement. As he runs for reelection, Sheriff Luna continues to focus on safety, stability, and accountability within the communities he serves.
