The Historical Association named for the 5th Vilnius Brigade of the Home Army is a Polish organization founded on 15 August 2010. It brings together people from across Poland who share an interest in the country’s history and a commitment to patriotic education. Its work focuses especially on the 5th Vilnius Brigade, commanded by Major Zygmunt Szendzielarz, known as “Łupaszko,” and on the history of Poland’s independence underground.
The association promotes historical knowledge, commemorates significant people and events, and encourages ethical and civic values associated with the underground resistance. Its activities include an annual walking rally following the brigade’s route, historical reenactments, lectures, research, and scholarly and popular publications. Members also provide historical consultation and opinions on legal acts, and the association seeks to assist veterans, independence activists, and their families in difficult circumstances.
It cooperates with cultural institutions, nonprofits, and community groups, including the Institute of National Remembrance in Gdańsk and the Museum of the Second World War.
