LVK

LVK is an association founded in 1977 that represents 160 member municipalities in matters related to hydropower development. Its work focuses on protecting the interests of communities that host power projects and helping ensure they receive a lasting share of the value created from local natural resources. LVK supports its members on energy policy and provides professional and legal assistance, alongside advocacy on questions concerning power development and its effects on local communities.

The association highlights the balance between national benefits from renewable energy and the costs borne by host municipalities, including the use of local landscapes and natural resources. It argues that communities contributing these resources should retain a significant share of the resulting income. LVK also shares information through news, events, videos, and a newsletter, and provides access to information about its member municipalities. It is part of Naturressurskommunene, an umbrella organization for municipal networks representing communities that host valuable natural resources, which works to strengthen local self-government and decision-making over their use.
