Lydia Powell is a project leader who helps communities use history to create social change and take ownership of how their stories are told. Drawing on her background in history, migrants’ rights and international development, she develops and leads collaborative projects that address unequal power dynamics and centre participants’ experiences.
Her services include creating and delivering projects from planning through evaluation, managing and developing existing initiatives, facilitating workshops, and advising on community engagement and history-based approaches to change. She also supports community history projects, migrant-led work and creative collaboration, using methods such as sketching and map-making to make participation more inclusive and accessible.
Powell works with organisations and community groups to shape projects around their needs, whether that means exploring what history means to a group, training community members to become historians, or bringing migrant-led perspectives into project design. Her work includes Voices of East Bank, The Colours of Greenwich, Understanding Policy Making and campaign and communications support for the Together With Refugees coalition.

What does Lydia Powell's branding look like?
The Lydia Powell wordmark is a compact black name treatment, with the first and last name set in a distinctive, hand-drawn character rather than a separate emblem. The identity pairs rounded, playful display lettering with clean, restrained supporting text; a white canvas and black type are enlivened by vivid lime, coral, teal and yellow, while collaged paper textures, hand-cut shapes and candid portrait photography give the work an inclusive, community-made feel.
