Lyfe Languages

Lyfe Languages is an Aboriginal-led registered charity in Australia working to improve communication between healthcare providers and Aboriginal and other Indigenous communities. Its digital platform makes medical terms and health information available in text and audio, helping patients and health workers communicate more clearly at the point of care. The organisation’s translations are created with young Language Champions and Elders, and its work is co-designed with communities. Starting with Nyangumarta, the platform has expanded to 17 languages across Australia and other countries.

Lyfe Languages also provides health resources, including animations and brochures that can be watched, downloaded, printed and shared with patients, families and communities. Resources are available in English, with some translated into Aboriginal languages, and can be used in clinics, Aboriginal Medical Services and hospitals. Health workers and community members can request new topics or language translations. The charity invites health workers, community leaders and language speakers to get involved as partners, supporters or Language Champions.
