About Lynsey Weatherspoon
Lynsey Weatherspoon is an Atlanta-based photographer and director who brings a unique vision and purpose to her work. Inspired by her late mother and acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems, Lynsey's photography career has been fueled by the love and lessons imparted by her first mentor. As an award-winning photographer, portraitist, and director, she uses both still photography and filmmaking to tell compelling stories.
Lynsey's work has been featured in renowned publications such as The New York Times, USA Today, NPR, and The Wall Street Journal. She has also exhibited her work at The African American Museum in Philadelphia and Photoville NYC. Lynsey is frequently called upon to capture real-time heritage and history, from capturing the Equal Justice Institute's Bryan Stevenson and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice to documenting the lives of everyday people affected by a pandemic.
With affiliations including Diversify Photo, Authority Collective, and Women Photograph, Lynsey is at the forefront of a modern vanguard of photographers. Additionally, she has received recognition and awards, such as the Canon Explorer of Light in 2020.
