About lzmk.hr
The Miroslav Krleža Institute of Lexicography is Croatia’s central lexicographic institution. Established in Zagreb in 1950 at the initiative of writer and scholar Miroslav Krleža, it documents and explains Croatian heritage and contemporary social reality through carefully researched reference works. Its core work involves acquiring, processing and verifying information, supported by research that provides the scholarly and professional foundation for its publications.
Over its history, the Institute has published more than 250 works, including encyclopaedias, atlases, dictionaries, lexicons and bibliographies. Its major reference titles include the multivolume Croatian Encyclopaedia and Croatian Biographical Lexicon, alongside newer single-volume publications developed in response to current cultural and social needs. The Institute also advances lexicographic scholarship through cooperation with universities, exchanges of verified information with international institutions, and work on shared standards for lexicography and encyclopaedias.
Its wider activities include research projects, conferences and exhibitions, as well as digital resources such as knowledge portals, specialized heritage collections and a digitized catalogue
