Maarten Baas is a Dutch artist and designer whose work combines artistic expression with furniture, objects, film, and spatial design. A graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, he is known for distinctive projects that challenge conventional ideas of time, materials, and form. His Real Time series features 12-hour films of performances that indicate the time, alongside works developed for public spaces.
The Clay series presents spontaneous, naïve designs, while Smoke grew from Baas’s graduation project and explores objects shaped by fire and transformation. His broader practice includes furniture and object collections such as Carapace and Close Parity, a series made from steel and brass, as well as miscellaneous works, interior and set design, and public art. Baas also undertakes private commissions and collaborations with brands including Louis Vuitton and Hermès.
His work is shown in exhibitions, including solo museum presentations, and he has participated in Art & Design events such as Milan Design Week, where he has exhibited annually since 2003
