Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg

Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb) is the shared media authority for the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It combines independent media regulation with sustainable support for regional media, aiming to protect media diversity, freedom of opinion and a fair democratic public sphere. The mabb oversees television, radio and online media, including licensing, programme requirements, advertising rules and youth protection. It also provides channels for viewers and listeners to submit programme complaints.

Alongside its regulatory work, the mabb supports local journalism, local television and audio initiatives, and helps people of all ages build information and news literacy. Its programmes and resources address topics such as navigating digital media safely, recognizing misinformation and participating confidently in public debate. The authority offers practical services including the mabb_atlas, which maps local media in Berlin and Brandenburg, frequency and programme lists, funding opportunities, educational materials and events. Through its institutions ALEX Berlin and MIZ Babelsberg, it supports participation, media training and innovation.
