Maboneng Township Arts Experience is a non-profit destination development initiative that aims to turn townships into vibrant creative districts. By transforming homes in townships into attractions, this organization creates a warm and intimate environment for locals and international visitors alike. They train and upskill homeowners and families, fostering a sense of community and creativity between townships, rural areas, and cities.

Over the past two decades, Maboneng Township Arts Experience has successfully created cultural experiences in South African communities, attracting visitors from around the world. The name Maboneng is derived from a Sesotho word meaning a place of lights, reflecting the transformation of the Alexandra Township, formerly known as Dark City due to its lack of electricity. Founder Siphiwe Ngwenya, who initially struggled to exhibit his own works, has now created opportunities for artists, generated employment for families, and helped townships find their place in the global art scene.

The organization's programs also contribute to training, women and youth empowerment, income generation, and inclusive and responsible tourism in South Africa.
