The Maclean Highland Gathering is an annual celebration of Scottish culture presented by the Lower Clarence Scottish Association in Maclean, New South Wales. Rooted in a tradition dating back to the first gathering at Murrayville in 1893, the event has become one of Australia’s prominent Scottish cultural gatherings. It provides opportunities for participants to compete and perform in traditional pursuits, including pipe bands, solo piping, drumming, Highland dancing and Highland Games. The programme also celebrates Scottish music, sports and heritage, welcoming competitors and visitors to experience these traditions on a large scale.
The gathering is the association’s principal activity. The Lower Clarence Scottish Association was formed to foster interest in Scottish music, sports, games, dancing, literature and Scottish life more broadly. The association invites people interested in joining to get in touch. Its website shares event information, tickets, results, scholarships and details about what’s on. The 122nd Maclean Highland Gathering is scheduled for 26–27 March 2027, continuing a long-running community celebration of Scottish cultural heritage.
