About Macondo Literary Festival
The Macondo Book Society, a non-profit organization based in Kenya, was founded by journalist Anja Bengelstorff and award-winning Kenyan author Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor. This society is dedicated to organizing literary festivals that celebrate African literature and authors, transcending linguistic barriers. By bringing together various writing language zones such as Arab, English, French, and Portuguese/Spanish, these festivals aim to foster conversations and connections across different cultures and perspectives.
The Macondo Book Society seeks to showcase the diverse and rich tapestry of African literature while engaging the public with the continent's histories and their relevance to the present and future. Inspired by the fictional place in Gabriel Garcia Márquez's novel, Macondo is a platform for magical storytelling and cultural exchange.
