Madam Walker Legacy Center is a National Historic Landmark and cultural institution in Indianapolis’ historic Indiana Avenue Cultural District. Opened in 1927 as the headquarters of the Madam C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, the building has long been a gathering place for Black entrepreneurship, arts, culture, and community. Today, the Center carries that legacy forward through programs and experiences rooted in Black culture, with a mission spanning arts and entertainment, entrepreneurship and STEAM, philanthropy and civic stewardship, social justice, and women’s equity.
Visitors can attend concerts, film screenings, art exhibitions, and special community events at the historic Walker Theatre and throughout the Center. The organization also offers History and Heritage Tours for student groups, sharing the story of the building and Indiana Avenue. Its event venue is available for private gatherings, with rental inquiries welcomed. Art exhibitions may be free and open to the public, and visitors can contact the Center to arrange a viewing.
