AMAW – Madeira Animal Welfare is a nonprofit animal welfare association established in January 2012 and based in Funchal, Madeira. Its primary mission is to help control the reproduction of abandoned, stray, institutionalized, and special-needs dogs and cats across the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Through sterilization initiatives, AMAW aims to prevent indiscriminate breeding and reduce the number of animals facing homelessness.

The association also works to promote animal health and welfare, protect public health and the environment, and collaborate with public and private organizations. Its activities include supporting sterilization projects for cat colonies, with featured initiatives in Ribeirinha, Camacha, and Atalaia, Caniço. AMAW promotes the adoption of stray animals after sterilization and shares activity and sterilization reports, information, and updates about its causes.

People can support its work through donations or by sponsoring a sterilization, helping fund efforts to care for animals and prevent unwanted litters. The association is located in Funchal and welcomes enquiries by phone or email
