The Manchester & District Rugby Union Referees’ Society Ltd (M&DRURS), established in 1902 and transformed into a Company Limited by Guarantee in 2019, is dedicated to the advancement of rugby union refereeing within the Manchester area. The Society appoints referees and assistant referees for men's, women’s, and junior matches across approximately 100 clubs, universities, colleges, and schools, officiating nearly 4,000 games each season. Governed by an elected Executive Committee comprising active and former referees, match observers, and club representatives, the Society operates largely on the dedication of volunteers.

M&DRURS provides extensive support for its referees through training, development meetings, and resources aimed at enhancing their refereeing skills and enjoyment of the game. They collaborate with regional societies to ensure sufficient referee coverage, promoting a vibrant rugby community. With a strong commitment to nurturing talent and community engagement, M&DRURS serves as a cornerstone of rugby officiating in the region, fostering a love for the sport among its members.
