The René Magritte Museum & Abstract Art Museum in Jette, Brussels, offers visitors a distinctive perspective on Belgian art of the 20th century. Located in the house where René Magritte lived with his wife, Georgette, for 24 years and painted half of his work, the museum connects Surrealism and Abstraction through a shared exploration of their artistic context.
Its collection includes more than 200 paintings, sculptures and other abstract artworks. Visitors can also explore Magritte’s life through photographs, letters, original gouaches and drawings, then see a reconstruction of the apartment he shared with Georgette. A dedicated second floor highlights pioneers of Belgian Abstraction and traces the artistic milieu in which Magritte experimented with Futurism and Cubism before turning to Surrealism.
The museum offers guided tours, including a tour on the last Wednesday of each month, as well as visits for schools and groups. Its program features temporary exhibitions and collection-focused presentations, such as a selection of works by Félix Labisse.
