Maidenhead Chess Club is a welcoming community for over-the-board chess players of all abilities in the Maidenhead area. Founded in 1905, the club has a long history of promoting chess and currently brings together around 50 regular players, with playing strengths ranging from 800 to 2200. It meets every Monday evening at St Luke’s Community Hall on Norfolk Road, where members enjoy social games and compete in rated matches.
The club fields teams in the Berkshire and Thames Valley leagues and runs an internal club championship, along with rated rapidplay tournaments in the Nigel Dennis Cup. During the summer, it also hosts special events, including simultaneous displays by chess masters. Friendly games are available to newcomers, though visitors are encouraged to check the calendar and contact the club before attending on busy match nights. For younger beginners, the separate Maidenhead Junior Chess Club meets on Saturday mornings at Claires Court Juniors Sports Hall.
