Documenting Maine Jewry (DMJ) is a comprehensive initiative dedicated to preserving the history and genealogy of Maine's Jewish communities. It serves as a collaborative platform for individuals to explore the rich tapestry of Jewish life in the state, featuring resources such as census records dating back to 1850, burial indexes, and a timeline documenting significant events in these communities. Users can discover photographs, articles, and community themes that illuminate the diverse heritage and contributions of Maine Jews.

DMJ actively engages members through participation in a variety of projects, including the collection of mystery photos and features on local organizations, religious life, and Jewish summer camps. The platform encourages personal connections and contributions from individuals wishing to honor their family histories, facilitating community support through financial donations. As a project under the supervision of Temple Beth El in Portland, Maine, DMJ aims to inspire and educate future generations about the vital role of Jewish culture in the region.
