Mainzer Freischützen Garde

The Mainzer Freischützen-Garde e.V. is a Mainz carnival association founded in 1901, dedicated to celebrating and preserving the city’s Fastnacht traditions. Its activities bring members and the wider community together through seasonal events, performances, and public celebrations. The organization’s program includes a large ceremonial session at the Kurfürstliches Schloss, a New Year’s procession through central Mainz, and Kreppelkaffee gatherings welcoming senior residents. It also hosts an officers’ reception for invited guests, officers, and members of its senate.

The Garde shares information about its history, leadership, command, and carnival customs, and provides resources such as a Fastnacht glossary and downloadable documents. Visitors can browse its online fan shop and order commemorative items. For its 125th anniversary in 2026, the association is offering a limited-edition, individually numbered jubilee medal, presented in a velvet-lined case. The Garde also invites donations toward a planned bronze sculpture celebrating Mainz Fastnacht and the city’s cultural heritage. Through events, merchandise, and fundraising, it supports tradition, community, and local carnival life.
