About MAK Center
The MAK Center for Art and Architecture is a contemporary, experimental, multi-disciplinary center located in Los Angeles. Headquartered in three iconic architectural works by Austrian-American architect R. M.
Schindler, the center challenges conventional notions of architectural space and the relationship between the creative arts. The landmark Schindler House, the Mackey Apartments, and the Fitzpatrick-Leland House serve as headquarters, residency program and exhibition space respectively. The center operates as the California satellite of the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and collaborates with the FOSH.
Acting as a cultural think tank, the MAK Center encourages exploration of practical and theoretical ideas by offering a diverse range of programs such as exhibitions, lectures, symposia, performances, music series, and publication projects. It also organizes architecture tours and commissions new works. With a mission to preserve and promote Schindler's architecture and legacy, the center continues to foster artistic and cultural experimentation.
