Making Waves is a swim school serving families and swimmers in St Albans and Harpenden. Operating since 1991, it is run by Millie Herbert and a fully qualified team who are passionate about making swimming accessible to people of all ages and abilities. Lessons take place at Sandringham School in St Albans and Aldwickbury School in Harpenden, with classes for children from 3.5 years old, ranging from non-swimmers to competent swimmers.
The school offers weekly children’s lessons, children’s crash courses, and teaching and coaching for juniors, teenagers and adults. Additional options include coaching for competent swimmers aged approximately 10 to 16, Rookie Lifeguard training, adult beginner and improver classes, and adult squad training for fitness and focused practice. Lessons aim to build water confidence, improve stroke technique and endurance, and teach water safety in a relaxed, friendly environment. Awards are delivered through the Swim England Learn to Swim Companion Programme and the RLSS Award Scheme. Teachers are DBS checked and have completed child protection training.
