About 高知県立牧野植物園
The Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, established to honor Dr. Makino Tomitaro, a prominent botanist from Kochi Prefecture, offers a serene space where nature and people coexist harmoniously. Spanning approximately 8 hectares on the Goyozan mountain in Kochi City, this garden showcases over 3,000 plant species, including wild and cultivated plants, throughout the seasons.
Aiming to promote botanical research and education, the garden expanded in 1999 to include the Dr. Makino Tomitaro Memorial Hall. Engaging in conservation efforts locally and in countries like Myanmar, the garden also features a 50th-anniversary garden and a renovated greenhouse.
With the recent addition of the Plant Research & Exchange Center, focusing on medicinal plant resources, the garden continues its legacy of conservation, research, education, and relaxation for over half a century.
