About Malápio
Adega Malápio is a winery in the Bairrada region of Portugal, dedicated to reviving the area’s traditional wine production in clay amphorae. The project draws on old regional practices and grapes from a century-old vineyard described as among Bairrada’s oldest. Its wines are fermented with the grape skins in historic clay vessels sealed with beeswax and pine resin, using natural methods and minimal intervention.
The winery’s 2024 Malápio Palheto blends native white and red varieties, including Bical, Maria Gomes, Cercial, Baga, Bastardo, Trincadeira, Rabo de Ovelha, Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Made in a limited, numbered release, the wine is unfiltered and unstabilised, with low sulphites. Malápio also offers wine tastings and visits to the winery and vineyard, with options for a snack, lunch or dinner.
Located in Aguada de Baixo, the restored winery welcomes visitors daily by prior reservation for wine tourism experiences. The Malápio name reflects local Bairrada apple varieties preserved at the winery
