MALTESER Austria

Malteser Austria is the Austrian branch of the Order of Malta’s charitable and humanitarian work. Guided by Christian values, especially compassion and respect for each person, the organisation focuses on helping people in need, easing suffering, and offering practical support and companionship. Its work is organised across emergency and rescue services, social services, and disaster relief, and is carried out largely by volunteers.

Malteser Austria provides care and assistance to people with disabilities, visits people who are ill or lonely, supports people affected by HIV, and accompanies people who are terminally ill and their families. Depending on the region, services also include ambulance and patient transport, medical standby services, first-aid training, and participation in disaster response. Additional programmes include youth initiatives, integration support, care services, pilgrimages and accessible travel, and the MALTESER Herzenswunsch project, which arranges trips within Austria to fulfil a person’s cherished wish. The organisation also encourages young people to volunteer and offers opportunities to get involved through its regional locations.
