About MAMA
MAMA is a maternal health charity that focuses on improving healthcare for expectant mothers and their babies in the Hoima and Kikuube districts of Uganda. As a midwifery-led organization, our mission is to educate women and empower midwives to increase skilled birth attendance and health facility delivery, ultimately reducing the risks associated with childbirth. We target the three delays that contribute to adverse outcomes in pregnancy: the decision to seek care, accessibility of care, and the quality of care available.
Our comprehensive approach includes providing health education, establishing remote maternity facilities, improving access to skilled birth attendance, and ensuring high-quality maternal healthcare. We collaborate closely with local colleagues to establish sustainable healthcare facilities and advocate for the local midwives. Currently, our work is based in Hoima town, Runga village, and Kyarushesha village, where the need for improved maternal health is particularly critical.
