Mamena is a general incorporated association based in Kubi, a small coastal community on Osakishimojima in Kure, Hiroshima, Japan. Guided by the principle of “bringing everyday life back into our own hands,” it works to build a community where people can live actively, safely, and with greater independence throughout their lives. Its initiatives span community care, education, technology, agriculture, and flexible ways of living and working.
Mamena develops opportunities for mutual support, including a welcoming community space, multigenerational shared housing, and support for caregiver training. It also hosts learning programs, workshops, concerts, cooking classes, and other events, while providing spaces for research and creative projects. Its technology work explores tools for elder care, access to healthcare in remote areas, and agricultural tasks. In farming, the association promotes sustainable citrus cultivation, hands-on growing experiences, and local product development. It also supports coworking, accommodation, and creative or educational stays in Kubi. As of November 2024, its activities are carried forward through Mamena Commons, where members and partners can participate, develop projects, and help sustain the community hub.
