About Manifesta Biennial
Manifesta 16 Ruhr is the upcoming edition of the European Nomadic Biennial, taking place from June 21 to October 4, 2026, across four cities in the Ruhr Area of Germany: Duisburg, Essen, Gelsenkirchen, and Bochum. This biennial art event will creatively repurpose twelve abandoned post-war church buildings into vibrant communal spaces aimed at fostering dialogue, cohesion, and artistic innovation among local communities.
Recognized for addressing contemporary social, political, and cultural issues in Europe, Manifesta engages diverse audiences through artistic projects, urban experiments, and educational programs. The biennial embraces collaboration between local and international artists and stakeholders, creating sustainable legacies that have a lasting impact. Manifesta 16 will also highlight a wide range of activities and initiatives, including an ambitious warm-up program leading up to the event.
