Marc Pope is an infrastructure solution engineer and technology director with 25 years of hands-on experience, including 19 years leading teams, budgets and operations. Self-taught, he has built and managed systems ranging from data centers and hosting platforms to enterprise cloud, disaster recovery and private infrastructure. His work spans architecture, product direction, hiring, vendor management, security and operational reliability for mid-market and Fortune 500 clients.

Pope creates open-source software focused on two essential infrastructure needs: backup and remote access. Borg Backup Server is a management plane for Borg that supports outbound-only agents, automated fleet management, append-only repositories, browser-based restores, single sign-on and role-based access. CortenDesk adds enterprise security and fleet controls to RustDesk, with a browser client, device policies, identity integration, multifactor authentication, audit history and bundled relay servers.

He also shares writing on infrastructure, open source and security, and offers architecture expertise for backup, recovery, remote access, fleet automation and resilient platforms. His experience includes operating multi-site infrastructure for hundreds of clients and more than 1,500 sites.
