About ONG MAREM
Marem-Association, or Mouvement Action pour la Réinsertion des Enfants Marginalisés, is a non-governmental organization based in Togo. They are dedicated to supporting the reintegration of street children in Lomé. Marem-Association provides care and assistance for street children in Togo, aiming to help build a better future for them.
But who are they? Marem-Association is a non-profit, secular, and apolitical organization founded in 2005 in Lomé. It is led by passionate young individuals who want to contribute their skills to the social development of Togo. When the main centers for street children in Lomé closed down in the early 2000s, forcing the children to return to the streets, the harsh living conditions of these children deeply touched Marem-Association.
They decided not only to take action with and for these children, offering them a second chance, but also to shed light on this societal issue affecting our childhood and gaining momentum. Marem-Association operates based on certain values, including empowering street children to be the primary agents of their own reintegration, providing support without fostering dependency, involving parents, families, and communities, and adopting a holistic approach to accompanying the children. They prioritize quality over quantity, advocate for institutional policies to support street children, and encourage volunteerism and solidarity.
The mission of Marem-Association is to promote inclusive education and social reintegration for street children. Addressing the issue of street children is not only crucial for the individuals involved but also for society as a whole. It hinders development and perpetuates poverty.
By focusing on education and reintegration, Marem-Association strives to transform individual tragedies into collective hope. The founders of Marem-Association are committed to contributing to the achievement of the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals through their concrete actions.
