Margate Yacht Club (MYC) is a volunteer-run sailing club in Margate, Kent, welcoming people of all ages and abilities. Members can join as individuals, families or non-sailors, and the club also welcomes kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders. Its active community combines opportunities to learn and compete with relaxed time together ashore.
The club offers year-round training led by RYA-qualified instructors, including beginner RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 courses, RYA Powerboat Level 2, safety-boat training and sessions for sailors developing their skills. A thriving youth squad provides weekly training for ages 8 to 16 during the sailing season, with club boats available to hire for training and racing.
MYC’s sailing programme includes competitive dinghy races on Sunday mornings and summer Wednesday evenings, alongside social sailing excursions. The club hosts open meetings and events, and members support the programme through duties such as safety-boat cover and race officiating, with training available. Social gatherings, including barbecues and seasonal events, add to the club’s welcoming atmosphere.
