The Mariano-Soquena Foundation is a charitable organization founded in 2016 by Gino Soquena to help young people in Hawaiʻi and the Philippines succeed through education, community service, and sports. Inspired by a visit to the Philippines and the needs he saw among local youth, Soquena established the foundation to create lasting opportunities. Its four programs support students and families through scholarships and practical assistance.
The Paul Soquena Junior Golf Scholarship provides monthly stipends and college scholarships to young golfers in Hawaiʻi and the Philippines. The William “Kalani” Mahoe Memorial Scholarship offers academic and sports awards to Hawaiʻi youth whose parents belong to a union. The Amor E.
Soquena Scholarship at Central Philippine University covers one incoming student’s annual tuition through graduation. The foundation also donates school supplies, books, computers, clothing, food, and other items to Good Shepherd’s Fold Orphanage in Guimaras. It supports its work through donations and a golf tournament, and reports that all donations fund its programs.
The foundation has supported more than 20 scholars across two countries
