Dr. Marie Huber is a historian whose work focuses on global economic history, postcolonial business history, and the history of development. Her research examines how people, governments, and companies navigated the economic legacies of colonialism and how these experiences shaped the modern global economy. Her projects and publications explore African aviation, multinational businesses, industrialisation, tourism, cultural heritage, and state enterprises.
Huber is completing The Problem of Flying, a monograph tracing the histories of Air Afrique and Ethiopian Airlines and the politics of air transport after decolonisation. Her research also investigates Bata shoe factories in postcolonial Kenya, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, and the development of corporate social responsibility in international business. She has led and contributed to research projects supported by organisations including the European Research Council, DFG, and ANR-DFG, and held the A. Verville Fellowship at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in 2025–2026.
Through her website, Huber shares research articles, books, media writing, interviews, teaching, workshops, and resources for audiences interested in African and global history.
