About マリメッコ展
Marimekko is a Finnish design house founded in 1951 by Armi and Viljo Ratia. Working beyond the boundaries of fashion and interiors, the brand has introduced new ideas for living through distinctive design. Its mission is to bring colour, joy and optimism to everyday life, guided by a belief in the importance of designers’ ideas and creative vision. Marimekko has developed more than 3,500 original print designs, which have shaped clothing and home environments across generations. Some designs are revisited and reimagined, giving them an enduring appeal.
The touring exhibition Marimekko: Art of Printmaking – Beauty, Dream, Love explores the company’s creative philosophy and printmaking craft through dresses, artworks and fabrics from different eras. It also features a video and projection installation inspired by Marimekko’s print factory in Helsinki, created by art unit plaplax, alongside an installation by designer Akira Minagawa. Together, these presentations offer visitors insight into the processes, ideas and cross-cultural connections behind Marimekko’s designs.
