About Marine Farming Association
The Marine Farming Association (MFA) is a prominent industry body in the top of the South Island of New Zealand (Te Tauihi). Representing aquaculture interests, the MFA advocates for sustainable marine farming practices. Their membership consists of 130 individuals, covering around 95% of the industry.
The MFA focuses on the farming of three key species: King Salmon, Green Lip Mussels, and Pacific Oysters. The top of the South Island is a hub for marine farming in New Zealand, accounting for significant proportions of the country's production. Green Shell Mussels, a native species, contribute to 65% of New Zealand's total production in this region, while King Salmon accounts for 61% and Pacific Oysters for 8%.
