Marine Conservation without Borders has been collaborating with indigenous peoples, local institutions, and local indigenous organizations to document the language our friends use to discuss the ecosystems that provide food security for their families and to develop methods to seamlessly combine non-western ecological knowledge systems with western science to create conservation biology curriculum using the language of instruction for a particular country combined with the local language. These instruments have many secondary benefits including scientific instruments that can also be used to teach language and culture while fulling their principal function.
