Marinemuseum Den Helder is a maritime museum dedicated to the history and present-day work of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Located in Den Helder, it invites visitors to explore naval life both above and below the sea, with exhibitions and experiences spanning 500 years of naval history. The collection features ship models, weapons, uniforms and objects that bring the stories of the Navy and its personnel to life.
A central attraction is the Tonijn, a Dutch submarine preserved in its original condition and open to the public. Visitors can climb aboard, look through its periscope and experience the confined spaces where its crew lived and worked. Former Navy personnel and museum staff share stories that add personal insight to the exhibits. Visitors can also explore museum ships, the outdoor grounds and changing exhibitions, including displays on the modern Navy and the Dutch Submarine Service.
The museum offers activities for families, educational programmes for schools, guided visits for groups and a museum shop. Onboard hospitality is available on the museum ship Schorpioen.
