Marine SABRES is an EU-funded research project dedicated to finding innovative ways to balance marine biodiversity conservation with a sustainable blue economy. Their mission is to promote the uptake of ecosystem-based management strategies, aimed at protecting and conserving marine ecosystems while supporting a resilient and productive economy. Marine SABRES brings together international experts in the biological and social sciences to improve the management of Europe's oceans and seas.

They focus on actions such as maintaining healthy fish stocks and selecting appropriate locations for marine renewable energy to reduce human impact on the ocean while meeting the needs of society sustainably. To make marine management clearer and more effective, Marine SABRES is developing a user-friendly framework called a 'Simple Socio-Ecological System' (SES). This framework empowers managers to make sustainable decisions, encourages citizen engagement in marine biodiversity conservation, and promotes sustainable development in coastal and marine sectors.

With credibility, relevance, and inclusivity in mind, Marine SABRES aims to deliver a simple SES that can be easily used in practical applications. They will test and implement this system in three diverse regions: the Tuscan Archipelago, the Arctic Northeast Atlantic, and Macaronesia. Overall, Marine SABRES is devoted to conserving biodiversity and integrating healthy ecosystems with a resilient blue economy, ultimately protecting and sustaining the vital resources and benefits that our marine environments provide
