About Maritime Archaeology
The Maritime Archaeology Trust is a registered charity that was established in 1991. Their main focus is on the protection and promotion of maritime heritage. They have a simple ethos of promoting understanding and enjoyment of maritime heritage in an ever-changing world.
To achieve this, they collaborate with other heritage and marine organizations to monitor and raise awareness of archaeological sites of significance. With a team of top researchers and academics in marine archaeology, they lead, contribute to, and partner on projects with various UK and EU organizations and funding bodies. The trust offers a range of services, including investigative work in maritime, coastal, and underwater archaeology, engaging people and communities through involvement and education, promoting hard-to-reach maritime heritage, and supporting heritage management for future generations.
They have received numerous awards and accreditations, including being a Registered Organization with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists and being Accredited to the Governing Bodies of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage. With 2021 marking their 30th anniversary, the Maritime Archaeology Trust is dedicated to continuing their important work in protecting and promoting maritime heritage
