About Maroteira
Herdade da Maroteira is a 330-acre estate in Portugal’s Alentejo region, set in the foothills of Serra d’Ossa, about 35 kilometres north of Évora. Owned by the same Anglo-Portuguese family for more than five generations, the farm has a long history of cork production and agriculture. In 2000, its current owner and manager, Philip Mollet, established vineyards, beginning with Syrah grapes that became the basis of the internationally acclaimed Cem Reis wine. Today, the estate produces award-winning red, white and rosé wines from selected grapes, including Syrah, Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez and Touriga Nacional.
Visitors can explore the estate’s cork oak forest and vineyards through guided four-wheel-drive tours and hikes, with opportunities to learn about cork production and enjoy the landscape. Wine tastings, birdwatching and stargazing are also among the experiences offered. Depending on the season, guests may see cork or grape harvesting, sheep activities and olive picking, while free-roaming Iberian black pigs forage among the oak trees. Herdade da Maroteira combines wine, nature and traditional Alentejo farming.
