Massasoit Community College is a renowned institution that has been providing quality education since its establishment in 1966. Its origin, however, can be traced back to a 1947 study conducted by the State Board of Education to address the need for an affordable state-supported system. This study advocated for the creation of twelve community colleges, one of which would cater to the Greater Brockton and South Shore area.

In 1965, after a feasibility study, the college was officially announced, and in 1966, it opened its doors to 358 students and 22 faculty members. Since then, Massasoit Community College has grown and expanded its campuses to include West Bridgewater and Duxbury. The flagship Brockton campus was completed in 1972.
