About MATESinConstruction
MATES is a pioneering not-for-profit charity established in 2008, dedicated to suicide prevention and support within Australia’s Construction, Mining, Energy, and Manufacturing industries. Rooted in research and industry collaboration, MATES focuses on creating a supportive culture among workers through community development programs, case management, and a 24/7 helpline staffed by qualified counselors. The MATES Program empowers workers with essential training to recognize signs of distress in colleagues and connect them with appropriate resources.
As an industry-backed initiative, MATES has expanded its reach internationally, including a successful launch in New Zealand. With a focus on safety, awareness, and responsiveness, MATES has trained over 366,000 workers and established a network of volunteers skilled in providing immediate assistance. Their ongoing commitment to research ensures the effectiveness of their approach while fostering mental well-being across the industry.
