Känguru der Mathematik is a brand known for hosting an annual mathematical multiple-choice competition aimed at students from grades 3 to 13. This global competition takes place simultaneously in about 100 countries each year on the 3rd Thursday of March. With over 6 million participants worldwide, the contest aims to promote mathematical education in schools, foster a love for math, and encourage independent problem-solving skills through challenging tasks.
Participants have 75 minutes to solve either 24 or 30 math problems, depending on their grade level. The brand has seen a significant increase in participation over the years, with over 800,000 participants in Germany alone in 2023. Besides certificates and task booklets, all participants receive a unique puzzle as a "prize for all.
