Mathics

Mathics is a free, open-source computer algebra system that serves as a robust alternative to Mathematica®. Designed for versatility, Mathics utilizes Mathematica-compatible syntax and functions, integrating seamlessly with various Python libraries. Its modular structure enables users to customize their setup with specific dependencies while maintaining a minimal footprint.

Key components of Mathics include Mathics Core, the essential framework for executing mathematical operations, and mathicsscript, a rich command-line client that enhances user interaction with advanced features like syntax highlighting and Unicode symbol support. For web-based users, Mathics-Django provides a browser interface that outputs graphics and MathML, enabling interactive documentation and visual representations of mathematical concepts.

Available under the GNU General Public License GPLv3, Mathics is supported by a vibrant community of developers and volunteers. With comprehensive documentation and a commitment to continual improvement, Mathics invites contributions and participation from those eager to innovate in the field of mathematics software.
